Review: Curve 9380 inklusive Hands-on Video

Nun ist auch das letzte OS 7 Gerät der aktuellen Serie in unsere Hände geraten. Das BlackBerry Curve 9380 ist sogar bei manchen Anbietern schon lieferbar. Als kleiner Bruder des Torch 9860 ist das Curve 9380 im niedrigeren Preissegment angesiedelt und bietet euch für rund 300€ einen Einsteiger Fulltouch BlackBerry mit einer guten Verarbeitung und NFC Unterstützung. Trotz Touchscreen kommt das Curve ebenfalls mit einem optischen Trackpad daher und gleicht optisch abgesehen vom großen Bildschirm fast eins zu eins dem Curve 9360. Unverkennbar natürlich nicht zuletzt durch den „Curve“ Schriftzug zwischen Kamera und Kameralicht auf der Rückseite des Gerätes.

Das BlackBerry Curve 9380 ist trotz des geringen Preises wirklich sehr sauber verarbeitet. Ähnlich wie das 9360, welches ebenfalls einen neuen Maßstab in der Curve Serie setzt in Sachen Verarbeitung ist auch die Fulltouch Variante wirklich sehr gut gelungen. Man hat keinesfalls das Gefühl nur ein Stück Plastik in der Hand zu halten. Die Hardwaretasten an der Unterseite des Touchscreens sind bei diesem Gerät nicht wie etwa am Torch 9860 einzeln herausgeführt sondern alle in das Gehäuse eingearbeitet. Was wir designtechnisch am Torch und Bold 9790 bemängelt haben müssen wir hier aus usability Sicht leider etwas bemängeln. Die Tasten lassen sich nicht so gut bedienen und man muss etwas mehr Kraft aufwenden. Dennoch passt diese Variante besser ins Gesamtbild und so wiegt sich das Ganze am Ende wieder auf. Die kleineren Knöpfe am rechten Rand des Gehäuses sind gummiert und lassen sich gut bedienen. Eine frei programmierbare ist wie auch bei allen anderen Modellen ebenfalls vorhanden. Was mir persönlich sehr gut gefällt ist auch hier die Position der 3,5mm Kopfhörerbuchse. Durch die Anbringung an der Oberkante des Gehäuses wird es deutlich angenehmer das Curve beim Musikhören in die Tasche zu stecken. Alles in allem ist die Verarbeitung sehr gut gelungen und das Gerät liegt gut in der Hand.

Tastatur

Die Tastatur am Curve 9380 existiert nur in virtueller Ausführung. Man hat hier die Wahl zwischen verschiedenen Layouts wie z.B. einer vollständigen Tastatur im Landscape Modus oder aber die beliebte SureType Variante mit zwei Buchstaben pro Taste. Wie immer ist es hier eine Sache der Vorliebe welche der Varianten man verwendet. Persönlich bevorzuge ich die SureType Variante, mit der man nach einer kurzen Gewöhnungsphase wirklich sehr schnell schreiben kann.

Display und Touchscreen

Das Display hat eine etwas geringere Auflösung als der große Bruder mit 480×360 und 188dpi. Das gelieferte Bild ist trotzdem scharf und auch die Displayhelligkeit sorgt für eine gute Ablesbarkeit. Nur im direkten Vergleich fällt die geringere Auflösung, die etwas blassere Darstellung der Farben und die größeren Bildpunkte deutlich auf. Lediglich beim Browsen von Webseiten muss man ein paar Abstriche machen. Zur Unterstützung der Navigation besitzt das Curve 9380 zusätzlich ein optisches Trackpad.

Foto- und Videoaufnahmen

Durch den etwas kleineren Prozessor ist das Curve 9380 leider nicht dazu in der Lage Videos mit einer Auflösung von 720p aufzunehmen. Ebenfalls eine Autofokusfunktion fehlt im Curve. Bei ausreichend Licht und einer ruhigen Hand macht das Curve aber trotzdem ganz passable Bilder und Videos. Ein paar original Testbilder könnt ihr weiter unten in der Galerie anschauen um euch selbst ein Bild von der Qualität zu machen.

Akkulaufzeit

Die Akkulaufzeit am Curve ist beinahe wieder auf dem von einem BlackBerry zu erwartendem Level. Der etwas schwächere Prozessor leistet dazu seinen Beitrag. Selbst bei intensiver Nutzung kommt man locker über den Tag, eher sogar noch mit Reserven auch mal 1,5 Tage ohne eine Steckdose. Der Vollständigkeit halber hier noch die von RIM angegebenen Laufzeiten:

BlackBerry OS 7

Die neuen BlackBerry Modelle setzen alle auf das neue BlackBerry OS 7. Vom Aussehen hat sich dabei bis auf die überarbeiteten Icons nur wenig geändert. Ursprünglich mit der Versionsnummer 6.1 versehen haben sich aber in BlackBerry OS 7 unter der Haube einige Veränderungen ergeben. Hauptsächlich geht es dabei um die Unterstützung der neuen Hardware (CPU, NFC, WLAN-Hotspot (ab Jan. über Firmware 7.1), Kompass, etc.). Aus diesem Grund wird es auch für bisherige OS6 Modelle keine Möglichkeit geben, diese auf OS7 zu updaten. Eine Neuerung die sich bereits viele mit dem neuen Interface in OS6 gewünscht haben ist nun implementiert. Die neu eingeführten “Panels” lassen sich nun auf Wunsch komplett oder nur einzeln abschalten. Durch “Liquid Graphics”, RIMs Bezeichnung für hardwarebeschleunigte Grafik, ist alles deutlich flüssiger geworden als noch bei OS6 oder gar OS5 Geräten.

Verschiedenes

Die verbauten Lautsprecher sind für das Gerät wirklich super. Telefonieren kann man mit dem Curve 9380 natürlich auch wie von einem BlackBerry gewohnt in hoher Qualität. Den kleineren Prozessor merkt man eigentlich nur im Browser, wenn es mal etwas länger zum Rendern braucht. Der SD-Kartenslot ist hier auch etwas besser über dem Akku verbaut und man kann diesen erreichen, ohne den Akku zu entfernen.

Verfügbarkeit

Die Carrier listen das Curve 9380 momentan noch als „bald verfügbar“. Bei Anbietern wie Notebooksbilliger oder Amazon ist es dagegen bereits seit ein paar Tagen lieferbar.

Fazit

Das Curve 9380 mit Fulltouch Display kann uns als einsteiger BlackBerry für einen geringen Preis überzeugen. Für Einsteiger, die nicht zu tief in die Tasche greifen wollen und gerne einen BlackBerry möchten der ein vollständiges Touchscreendisplay besitzt ist das Curve die richtige Wahl. Es ist sehr Flach lässt sich somit super in der Hosentasche verstauen ohne dabei aufzutragen. Dank OS 7 und einem 800 Mhz Prozessor ist die Bedienung ohne Verzögerungen möglich. Ein wirklich schönes Gerät.

Update: Das Curve 9380 ist ab sofort bei notebooksbilliger.de für 299€ lieferbar. Danke an Markus von Mobistack für die Aufmerksamkeit.

Die letzten beiden Geräte der neuen OS7 Range von RIM sind seit kurzem bei zwei großen Anbietern vorbestellbar. Zum einen kann man bei Notebooksbilliger das Bold 9790 (hier unser Review) für 509€ vorbestellen. Alternativ dazu gibt es das Bold außerdem bei Amazon zu einem deutlich günstigeren Preis von 434,50€ zum vorbestellen. Wir gehen davon aus, dass sich der Preis zum Anfang bei ca. 415€ einpendeln wird. Das Fulltouch Curve 9380 als lowbudget Variante gibt es bei Notebooksbilliger zu einem Preis von 309€ oder bei Amazon für momentan 399€. Auch hier gehen wir von einem Mittelmaß bei ca. 315€ für einen Anfangspreis aus.

Update: Die Preise sind inzwischen schon etwas gefallen und so ist das 9790 z.B. bei notebooksbilliger für 388€ erhältlich. Das Curve 9380 liegt inzwischen bei nurnoch 292€. Dank an Laura für den Tipp.

RIM erweitert sein OS7 Portfolio um zwei neue Modelle: Bold 9790 und Curve 9380

Ein paar Bilder vom Bold 9790 „Bellagio“ haben wir ja bereits vor ein paar Tagen zu Gesicht bekommen. Gestern kündigte RIM das Modell zusammen mit einem weiteren OS7 Device offiziell an. Auf der linken Seite im Bild könnt ihr das neue BlackBerry Curve 9380 bestaunen. Beide Modelle besitzen einen Touchscreen allerdings in etwas unterschiedlichen Größen. Das 9790 ist praktisch das Nachfolge Modell zum 9780 als OS7 Gerät mit Touchscreen. Das Curve 9380 ist ein im niedrigen Preissegment angesiedeltes Fulltouch BlackBerry. Die Verfügbarkeit der beiden Geräte werden von RIM wie gewohnt mit „in den kommenden Wochen“ angegeben. Ich gehe davon aus, dass wir die Geräte bei uns in Deutschland zum Jahresende, oder zwischen Januar-Februar begrüßen dürfen.
