Das neue QNX Technologie Konzeptauto: Mercedes-Benz CLA45 AMG

Am ersten Tag der CES 2014 in Las Vegas stellt QNX heute das neue Technologie Konzeptauto vor. Es handelt sich dabei um einen Mercedes-Benz CLA45 AMG. Bereits letztes Jahr wurde ein Bentley Continental GT vorgestellt, welchen wir euch zur BlackBerry Live im Video gezeigt haben. Neben dem Mercedes wird auch noch ein weiteres Auto vorgestellt, ein KIA Soul, bei dem vor allem die Akustik im Vordergrund stehen wird. Zusätzlich wird der bereits bekannte Jeep Wrangler Sahara als Referenzfahrzeug gezeigt. Mit Hilfe der Fahrzeuge werden verschiedene Features von QNX vorgestellt wie z.B. Fahrzeug-zu-Fahrzeug Anrufe, verschiedene Navigationssysteme in einem Fahrzeug oder die integrierte Interaktion mit den Systemen in den Rücksitzen des Fahrzeugs. Den meisten unter euch ist sicher bekannt, dass das System von QNX ebenfalls die technologische Basis für BlackBerry 10 bildet. In Fahrzeugen (und Spaceshuttles) wird es allerdings schon wesentlich länger eingesetzt.

QNX technology concept car for Acoustics based on a modified Kia Soul: For the first time at CES, QNX Software Systems will have a vehicle specifically focused on QNX Acoustics technology. This technology concept car will demonstrate:

Advanced hands-free capabilities, including narrowband, wideband, and fullband stereo calling to the technology concept car based on a modified Mercedes CLA45
The recently announced QNX Acoustics for Active Noise Control, a high-performance software solution for dramatically reducing unwanted engine noise inside passenger vehicles
Engine Sound Enhancement (ESE) technology designed to playback synthesized engine sound over the vehicle speakers and synchronized with the engine’s rev. More and more vehicles today use engine management techniques to reduce fuel consumption (eg. variable cylinder management, low engine torque). These technologies are changing the way engines sound, and OEMs have a desire to maintain their ‘signature engine sounds’ and cater to vehicle enthusiasts.

QNX reference vehicle: The QNX reference vehicle based on a modified Jeep Wrangler Sahara is making its second appearance at CES. It will showcase the capabilities of the QNX CAR Platform for Infotainment, and for the first time, Qualcomm processors. The QNX reference vehicle will also feature an IBM cloud services demo, including IBM’s MessageSight, InfoSphere Streams, and Worklight products for performing remote, real-time control and analytics of car sensor data.

Additional booth demos: QNX Software Systems will also feature a partner area showcasing two Japanese vendors: Aisin AW, a navigation engine provider, and HI Corporation, a provider of digital instrument cluster technology. BlackBerry 10 QNX Bentley Continental GT Konzept Auto im Video

Von außen sieht das QNX Bentley Continental GT im Grunde ganz normal aus. Schaut man im Innenraum genauer hin, wird einem allerdings schnell klar, dass hier etwas mehr unter der Haube steckt als bei einem „gewöhnlichen“ Bentley. Dieser hier wurde von den QNX Jungs komplett umgebaut und verfügt über einen riesigen Touchscreen in der Mittelkonsole, der die üblichen Bedienelemente ersetzt. Das Beste daran? Das gesamte System setzt dabei auf BlackBerry 10! Schon in der Keynote hat uns Thorsten Heins anhand des QNX Konzept Bentley eine besondere Variante des mobile Computing vorgestellt. Ich hatte auf der BlackBerry Live 2013 die Gelegenheit mit Alexandre James von QNX ebenfalls ein paar Features des Konzeptautos genauer anzuschauen. Das ganze wurde für Euch selbstverständlich auf Video festgehalten. Mir ist zwar bei der Kamera im Inneren ein kleiner Fehler unterlaufen, sodass diese Aufnahmen leider etwas unscharf sind, trotzdem könnt Ihr im Video noch einmal einen genaueren Blick auf eine mögliche Zukunft in der Bedienung von Autos werfen.

Ich könnte mir persönlich sehr gut vorstellen bestimmte Einstellungen meines Fahrzeuges vom BlackBerry aus zu steuern. Wie oft passiert es Euch z.B., dass Ihr irgendwo euer Auto abgestellt habt und darüber nachdenkt ob es auch abgeschlossen ist oder alle Fenster geschlossen sind? Mir jedenfalls viel zu häufig. Dieses Problem und viele weitere wären mit Hilfe der QNX Car-Plattform und BlackBerry 10 also auf jeden Fall potentiell gelöst. Alex geht im Video auf das speziell geformte Display ein, welches eine besonders angepasste Wölbung besitzt. Diese sorgt dafür, dass sich der Screen enorm ergonomisch bedienen lässt. Eine weitere Besonderheit ist das integrierte, physische Drehrad innerhalb des Displays. Die Integration in den Bildschirm erlaubt hier die Variation von Funktionen abhängig vom gewählten Menü. Auch die Bedienelemente hinter dem Lenkrad sind komplett digital und können vollständig angepasst werden. Per BlackBerry 10 App lassen sich die verschiedensten Details des eigenen Fahrzeuges abrufen und wie im Video zu sehen auch die Fenster und andere Dinge kontrollieren. Auch die von BlackBerry 10 bekannte Video-Chat Funktion ist in diese Plattform integriert.

Das neue QNX Technologie Konzeptauto – Bentley Continental GT

Autos und Gadgets sind zwei Begriffen bei denen mein Herz gerne mal etwas höher schlägt. Was kann es da also besseres geben als ein edles Geschoss gepaart mit der neuen QNX CAR Platform 2.0. Auf der CES in Las Vegas wurde der Nachfolger der bisherigen Konzeptfahrzeuge vorgestellt und der stellt den die beiden Vorgänger mal locker in den Schatten. Das neue Konzeptauto ist ein Bentley Continental GT! Im Zentrum der Plattform steht ein riesiger HD Touchscreen in dessen unteren Hälfte sich ein physischer Drehknopf befindet. Die Größe des Bildschirms lässt es zu, die 3D Navigation zu verwenden und dabei gleichzeitig die virtuellen Fahrwerkseinstellungen zu bedienen. Außerdem kann man mit einem freundlichen „Hello Bentley“ das integrierte Stimmerkennungssystem aktivieren. Während man also hochkonzentriert auf das Navigationssystem schaut um an der nächsten Kreuzung nicht falsch abzubiegen und gleichzeitig noch die Federung auf sportlich schaltet, kann man dann zu allem Üeberfluss sein Auto bitten, jetzt die Musik in Gang zu bringen.

Wisst ihr allerdings was das beste ist? Wir können das Auto natürlich vorerst nicht persönlich sehen und deshalb kann man auf das Interface per Webanwendung zugreifen! Die Daten die es hier zu sehen gibt werden in Echtzeit von der CES in Las Vegas auf die Webseite übertragen. Die Instrumente vor dem Lenkrad sind vollständig digital und lassen sich auf die Bedürfnisse individuell anpassen. Das sind allerdings nur ein paar der Dinge die der edle Hobel bietet. Schaut euch am besten noch das Making of Video an um auch ein paar bewegte Bilder zu bekommen.

Ich kann es kaum abwarten das in vielen Serienfahrzeugen zu sehen und hoffe das viele Herstelle auf diese neue Plattform setzen werden. Am Ende könnte das dann vielleicht mal so aussehen.

QNX stellt HTML5 SDK vor – die Brücke zwischen Entwicklern und Autoherstellern

Mit der gestrigen Pressemeldung zur Veröffentlichung eines HTML5 SDK für die QNX CAR2 Plattform ist RIM über das Tocherunternehmen QNX in den Kampf um das noch weitgehend dünn besiedelte Gebiet der 3rd-Party Apps in der automotive Branche eingestiegen.

Die Grundlage für das SDK bildet die QNX CAR 2 application plattform, welches in seiner Form als überaus zuverlässiges Betriebssystem bereits jetzt in vielen Infotainmentsystemen eingesetzt wird. Mit dem SDK wird es möglich sein Anwendungen zu entwickeln, die beispielsweise Daten der Klimaanlage, des Radio oder der Navigation benutzen können.

Dennoch wird es ein weiter Weg sein, bis wir tatsächlich 3rd-Party-Apps in unserem Fahrzeug auf Basis der QNX CAR2 application Plattform zu sehen bekommen, da nach dem Release im Dezember 2012 natürlich die Automobilhersteller das System noch in ihre Fahrzeuge integrieren müssen. Einige Automobilhersteller scheinen RIMs Vorhaben antizipiert zu haben und so stellte z.B. BMW ein SDK zur Entwicklungs von Apps der neuesten Infotaimentgeneration „iDrive“ vor. Hierfür wird jedoch immer noch entgegen der QNX-Lösung ein Smartphone benötigt, auf dem die Datenlogik arbeitet. Diese Apps müssen von BMW zertifiziert werden, um für die Verwendung im Fahrzeug freigeschaltet zu werden.

QNX wird dagegen nie in die Lage kommen, solche Apps für die Verwendung im Fahrzeug zuzulassen oder nicht – der Hauptaugenmerk liegt auf dem Verkauf der Plattform an OEMs. Ob dieser Euch dann während der Fahrt AngryBirds spielen lässt oder nicht ist dann ganz ihm überlassen.

Making of Video zum QNX Referenz Fahrzeug – Jeep Wrangler

Vor knapp einer Woche hat QNX sein neues Referenzfahrzeug vorgestellt und verwöhnt uns nun mit weiteren Details zum Fahrzeug in einem schönen Making Of Video. Der Jepp Wrangler ist vollgepumpt mit Technik und soll demonstrieren, wozu diese neue Plattform in der Lage ist. So lassen sich alle Aspekte des Fahrzeugs über ein „PlayBook“ in der Mittelkonsole kontrollieren. Auch die Anzeigen für den Fahrer sind komplett digital und können an die eigenen Bedürfnisse angepasst werden. Wenn Ihr genau hinschaut, dann lassen sich durchaus Parallelen zu bereits eingesetzten Systemen in anderen Autos ziehen, denn QNX ist in ziemlich vielen Autos verbaut, ohne das man davon bisher all zu viel mitbekommen hat. Ich könnte mir gut vorstellen beim Einsteigen mein PlayBook in die Mittelkonsole zu stecken und damit das System meines Autos komplett zu bedienen. Hätte den Vorteil, dass man den Bildschirm immer mitnehmen kann und die dreisten Navi-Diebe immer mal öfter ins Leere greifen…

Das erste QNX BlackBerry?

w00t!!! Auf TheVerge wurde gerade ein Bild vom vielleicht ersten QNX BlackBerry veröffentlicht. Angeblich trägt das BlackBerry den Codenamen „London“. Im Beitrag heißt es weiter, dass dieses Gerät wohl im Juni 2012 für den Markt bereit sein soll. Ausgestattet ist es wohl mit einem TI OMAP dual-core Prozessor mit 1,5 Ghz, 1GB RAM sowie 16 GB integriertem Gerätespeicher. Zusätzlich soll eine 8 Megapixel Kamera verbaut sein. Wie man auf dem Bild erkennen kann ist ebenfalls eine Frontkamera zu sehen. Wenn ich mir das Gerät so anschaue erinnert es mich schon etwas an das kürzlich vorgestellte P’9981 von Porsche Design. Das Modell aus dem Bild soll wohl ein Dummy gewesen sein laut der Quelle von TheVerge. Außerdem wird von zwei weiteren low-end Geräten und einer neuen Version des BlackBerry Torch berichtet, welcher sehr dünn sein soll. Wir sind sehr gespannt ob wir dieses Gerät vielleicht irgendwann nächstes Jahr mal in den Händen halten dürfen, oder das nur ein gut gemachtes Photoshop Mockup ist.

Im Rahmen der heute startenden DevCon gibt es nun auch eine offizielle Pressemeldung zum neuen Betriebssystem für BlackBerry Smartphones und Tablets. Wie bereits länger bekannt wird das neue OS den Namen BBX tragen. Also eine Zusammensetzung aus BlackBerry OS und QNX. Weitere Highlight bisher:

BlackBerry BBX

BBX is the next generation platform for BlackBerry smartphones and tablets. It combines the best of BlackBerry and the best of QNX and is designed from the ground up to enable the powerful real-time mobile experiences that distinguish BlackBerry products and services.

The BBX platform will include BBX-OS, and will support BlackBerry cloud services and development environments for both HTML5 and native developers. BBX will also support applications developed using any of the tools available today for the BlackBerry PlayBook – including Native SDK, Adobe AIR/Flash and WebWorks/HTML5, as well as the BlackBerry Runtime for Android Apps – on future BBX-based tablets and smartphones.

BlackBerry WebWorks

Developers who want to support both existing smartphones (running BlackBerry 6 and BlackBerry 7 OS) and BlackBerry PlayBook tablets can monetize apps on both platforms today with BlackBerry WebWorks, which supports apps built on HTML5, CSS and JavaScript. The latest release, BlackBerry WebWorks SDK 2.2 (supporting both smartphones and tablets), is now available and includes updates for the new PlayBook OS SDK, PlayBook Simulator and more.

The BlackBerry WebWorks APIs are supported by the Ripple Emulator, a standalone, high-fidelity browser-like emulation tool that allows developers to test and debug their applications on multiple platforms and devices without having to compile or launch simulators. Native SDK – Content Rich, Fast and Smooth Running Applications

RIM also announced today the immediate availability of the Native SDK for the BlackBerry PlayBook (1.0 gold release). The Native SDK allows developers to build high-performance, multi-threaded, native C/C++ applications and enables developers to create advanced 2D and 3D games and other apps with access to OpenGL ES 2.0 and Open AL, as well as device specific APIs. Applications developed with the Native SDK will run today on the BlackBerry PlayBook and will be forwardly compatible on BBX-based tablets and smartphones.

The Native SDK includes support for C/C++ POSIX library and compliance, device events like gesture swipes and touch screen inputs, access to code management systems using industry standard Eclipse CDT (C/C++ Development Tools) and advanced debug and analysis tools. QNX Momentics Tool Suite, an Eclipse-based integrated development environment, is included. It provides memory profiling, application debugging, and memory usage statistics to help developers debug sophisticated programs, including hardware accelerated OpenGL applications.

The Native SDK makes the development and porting of game applications to the BlackBerry PlayBook an extremely attractive proposition for developers. Well known game publishers, developers and major game engine companies have already started to bring their game titles and applications to the platform.

Adobe AIR 3.0 Support

Adobe Flash enables developers to produce visually stunning, highly functional applications for the BlackBerry PlayBook that can integrate with the underlying OS and will be supported on future BBX-based tablets and smartphones.

The BlackBerry PlayBook now supports the recently announced Adobe AIR 3.0 runtime. Among the supported features are Encrypted Local Store that gives developers the ability to use the Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) to encrypt and securely store sensitive information on the device, as well as store passwords, keys or credit card information safely within the app; StageText that allows developers to take advantage of native text controls and the native interaction behaviors of those controls; Multitouch and Gestures built into applications to provide great usability; and more.

PlayBook OS 2.0 – Developer Beta

RIM introduced today the Developer Beta version of the BlackBerry PlayBook OS 2.0. The Developer Beta includes the BlackBerry Runtime for Android Apps and the BlackBerry Plug-In for Android Development Tools (ADT), allowing developers to quickly and easily bring Android applications to BlackBerry PlayBook tablets.

The BlackBerry Plug-In for ADT (an Eclipse plug-in) extends a developer’s existing Eclipse Android development environment to support the PlayBook, and includes the BlackBerry PlayBook Simulator for developers to test and debug their apps before submitting them to BlackBerry App World. Developers can also test and debug their apps on a PlayBook running the BlackBerry PlayBook OS 2.0 – Developer Beta.

Android developers can also repackage Android apps for the BlackBerry PlayBook online by using the BlackBerry Packager for Android Apps. The web tool guides developers through a step-by-step process, allowing them to test their apps for compatibility with the PlayBook, and repackage and sign their apps for submission to BlackBerry App World, all without downloading any tools.

Increased Developer Productivity with Open Source Libraries on the BlackBerry PlayBook OS

RIM also announced the BlackBerry Open Source Initiative to port popular Open Source libraries to the BlackBerry PlayBook platform. Libraries already available include physics engines like Bullet Physics and Box2DX, scripting languages like Lua, multimedia libraries like OpenAL and SDL, gaming frameworks like Cocos2DX and general-purpose libraries like Boost and Qt. Also available under an Open Source license are a range of code samples that developers can use to get started quickly, as well as GamePlay, a new 3D native gaming framework.
