Der neue fulltouch-Einstieg bei BlackBerry heißt Leap

BlackBerry hat heute auf dem Mobile World Congress in Barcelona den Nachfolger des hier nicht offiziell erhältlichen Einsteigermodells Z3 vorgestellt, das BlackBerry Leap. Äußerlich gleicht es dem bei Foxconn produzierten Z3 sehr stark, übernimmt nun aber wesentliche Bestandteile der Hardware aus Classic, Z10 und Q10.

Mit seinem 5″ Bildschirm und einer Auflösung von 1280px x 720px liegt es auf dem Niveau des Z30, auch wenn beim Leap kein OLED-Display zum Einsatz kommt. Der Dual-Core Prozessor mit 1,5Ghz von Qualcomm ist bereits in diversen BlackBerry-Geräten bewährt und sollte eine flüssige Nutzung von BlackBerry 10.3.1 ermöglichen. Neben 2GB Ram und 16 GB internem Speicher kann das Smartphone auf einen 2800mAh großen Akku zurückgreifen. Damit sollte in etwa die Laufzeit des Z30 erreicht werden.

Neben der Kamera, die nun Bilder mit 8 MP aufnimmt hat auch das Mobilfunkmodul ein Upgrade erhalten, sodass ihr LTE in Deutschland mit dem Leap benutzen könnte. Das Gerät wird zu einem Preis von $275 erscheinen, der Preis in Deutschland wird sich demnach zwischen 250€ und 300€ bewegen. Es soll ab April erhältlich sein.

BlackBerry stellt Z3 „Jakarta Edition“ für Indonesien vor

BlackBerry hat gestern das Z3 „Jakarta Edition“ für den indonesischen Markt vorgestellt. Bei dem im niedrigen und hart umkämpften Preissegment angesiedelten Gerät, handelt es sich um das erste Produkt aus der erst Ende letzten Jahres verkündeten Zusammenarbeit mit dem Auftragsfertiger FoxConn. FoxConn hat beim Z3 auch Teile der Entwicklungsarbeit übernommen.

Mit dem Z3 bietet BlackBerry ein Smartphone zunächst nur für den Indonesischen Markt an, welches dort durch einen Preis von IDR 2,199,000 (ca. 139€) überzeugen soll. Dementsprechend niedrig sind die Hardware-Spezifikationen.

Ein qHD Display, 1,5GB Ram, eine Kamera mit 5MP oder ein 1,2Ghz Prozessor schrecken heute die verwöhnte Smartphone-Käuferschaft nicht mehr auf. Doch das Z3 „Jakarta“ will eben günstig sein und damit beim Publikum punkten. Um dies neben dem Preis sicher zu stellen, hat BlackBerry auf ein großes Display und einen ausreichend dimensionierten Akku Wert gelegt. Mit 2500 mAh lässt es sich Dank des recht geringen Hardwarehungers lange aushalten.

Das Z3 wird mit dem aktuellsten Betriebssystemupdate von BlackBerry 10 ausgeliefert. Trotz der geringeren Auflösung gegenüber dem Z30 sind Apps für das Z30 auch mit dem Z3 kompatibel. BlackBerry löst dies über eine interne Skalierung. Nutzer des Z3 können im BBM auf gesonderte Sticker zurückgreifen, die landestypisches Symbole und Schriftzeichen enthalten. Es also in der Tat recht stark auf den jeweiligen Markt angepasst.
Aktuell ist noch nicht sicher, ob und wann das Z3 in Deutschland erscheinen könnte. Für BlackBerry ist das Gerät ein Pilotprojekt um zu evaluieren, ob sich vergleichsweise sehr günstige Geräte der Marke BlackBerry in einem preissensiblen Markt entsprechend verkaufen lassen. Gespannt wird man in Waterloo auch auf die Kritik der Käufer warten, ob sich ein solches Gerät mit den typischerweise hohen Qualitätsansprüchen von BlackBerry und derer Käufer decken lässt. Nach kurzer Zeit wird man also ein Fazit ziehen, ob die langfristig angelegte Partnerschaft mit FoxConn in die richtige Richtung läuft. Vielleicht erhalten so auch wir noch ein BlackBerry 10 Gerät für den schmalen Taler, das besonders bei wenig anspruchsvollen Kunden aus Privat- und Geschäftskundensegment auf Zustimmung treffen kann.

BlackBerry Z3 Auflösung bestätigt – automatische Skalierung auf Z30 Niveau

Entgegen unserer Erkenntnisse von vor ein paar Wochen wird das BlackBerry Z3 mit einer Bildschirmauflösung von 540×960 ausgeliefert werden. Die offiziellen Spezifikationen wurden mit der Freischaltung der Pre-Order für Kunden aus Indonesien bekannt gegeben. Trotz der geringeren Pixeldichte wird es für Entwickler nicht erforderlich sein, alle Apps speziell für das Z3 zu aktualisieren. Dank hardwareseitiger Skalierung „denkt“ jede App, sie würde auf einem Display mit 1280×720 Pixeln ausgeführt. Das erklärt auch, warum unsere App-Analytics für das Gerät eine Auflösung von 1280×720 Pixeln anzeigt. Alle Apps werden also automatisch von der Hardware des Z3 auf die passende Auflösung skaliert und es ist keine weitere Aktion erforderlich um das Z3 zu unterstützen.

Solltet ihr allerdings in eurer App NFC, den Lagesensor oder den Magnetometer (z.B. als Kompass) verwenden so wird hier der Einsatz mit dem Z3 etwas schwierig. Die o.g. Sensoren sind am Z3 nicht vorhanden.

Während des MWC 2014 stellte BlackBerry diese Woche offiziell das neue BlackBerry Z3 vor. Leider wurde mit den Hardwaredetails relativ sparsam umgegangen und niemand hat bisher die Details zur Bildschirmauflösung offiziell bekannt gegeben. In den ersten Leaks der Hardwaredetails ist bisher von einer ungewöhnlichen Auflösung mit 540 x 960 Pixeln die Rede. Wir können aber nun mit ziemlicher Sicherheit zumindest die Entwickler unter euch beruhigen. Auch das BlackBerry Z3 wird mit einer Auflösung von 720×1280 Pixeln ausgestattet sein. Zumindest ist das aus den Analyse-Daten einer BlackBerry 10 App zu erkennen. Dort ist für das Gerät mit dem Codenamen STJ100-1 (also das Z3) die Auflösung von 720×1280 zu erkennen. BlackBerry hält also wie versprochen Wort. Das BlackBerry Z3 wird vorerst auf dem Indonesischen Markt erscheinen und dann möglicherweise in einer LTE Variante etwas später auch bei uns in Europa zu haben sein.

Bei der heutigen Pressekonferenz auf dem Mobile World Congress in Barcelona hat CEO John Chen die neuen BlackBerry Smartphones Z3 und Q20 vorgestellt.

Z3 für Indonesien

Bei dem Z3 handelt es sich um das erste Handset, das in Kooperation mit Foxconn in kurzer Zeit entstanden ist und speziell für den indonesischen Markt entwickelt wurde. Dort wird es im Vergleich zu den bisherigen Smartphones zu einem sehr günstigen Preis angeboten werden und soll im April starten. Es besitzt ein 5″ Display und ist mit BlackBerry 10.2.1. ausgestattet. Aktuell ist nicht geplant, das Gerät auch nach Europa zu bringen.

Q20 bringt Trackpad wieder zurück

Für uns deutlich interessanter ist die Ankündigung bzw. der Paper-Launch des Q20 „Classic“. Als neues High-End Gerät im BlackBerry 10 Geräte Portfolio wird es die von älteren Geräten bekannte Tastenreihe mit Anruf-Tasten, Zurück- und BlackBerry-Taste wieder aufleben lassen, genauso wie das Trackpad. Zusätzlich soll jedoch auch die Bildschirmdiagonale von 3,1″ des Q10 auf 3,5″ beim QWERT-Q20 anwachsen. Wir sind gespannt, wie BlackBerry das Gerät schlussendlich designt, aktuell gibt es keine Bilder oder nähere technische Spezifikationen. Womöglich wird es sich gegenüber dem Q10 deutlich in der Länge strecken.

John Chen sagte, dass es viele Kunden gibt, die die Forderung nach dem „alten“ Design der BlackBerrys gestellt haben und man sich deshalb für dieses Gerät entschieden habe. Das Q20 soll bis zum Ende des Jahres erscheinen. Das ist viel Zeit, die zwischen der Ankündigung und der Auslieferung stehen. Immerhin sagte John Chen in einer an die Pressekonferenz anschließenden Fragerunde, dass auch für diese Jahr noch weitere High-End Geräte geplant seien.

Mit dem Q20 will man nun auch den letzten Nutzer eines Bold 9900 auf die neue Plattform mitnehmen. Man kann dabei durchaus geteilter Meinung sein. Viele haben sich bereits an das BB10 Design gewöhnt und vermissen auch nichts. Eine offensichtlich ziemlich große Gruppe weiterer Nutzer wünscht jedoch auch weiterhin mehr Hardware-Buttons und ein Trackpad zur Navigation. Die Anpassung des Betriebssystems auf das Q20 kostet natürlich auch Kapazität, die weiteren Entwicklungen entgegen steht.
