Mit John Chen als neuen CEO von BlackBerry folgen nun auch weitere personelle Konsequenzen aus der strategischen Ausrichtung zum Nischenanbieter im Geschäftskunden-Feld.

Dazu wurde gestern John Sims als neuer Präsident für Global Enterprise Services benannt, er berichtet in dieser Funktion direkt an Chen. So soll er das Unternehmens insbesondere im Bereich der Geschäftskundendienste festigen und weiter ausbauen, um der neuen Strategie des Unternehmens Genüge zu tun.

Eine weitere Personalie ergibt sich bei der Stelle des Vize-Präsidenten für Corporate Development and Strategic Planning. Dort werden die Geschicke in die Hand von James S. Mackey gelegt. Zudem wird mit Mark Wilson die Position des Senior Vice President of Marketing neu besetzt.

Alle besitzen eine gemeinsame Vergangenheit mit CEO John Chen. James Mackey kann sich über 40 Übernahmen durch SAP im Laufe seiner Tätigkeit als Head of Corporate Development bei SAP zuschreiben lassen. Sims hingegen war zuvor President of mobile service business bei SAP. Bevor Wilson als Marketing-Chef nun zu BlackBerry kommt, war er unter anderem als Senior Vice President of Corporate and Field Marketing bei Sybase tätig, also genau dem Unternehmen, das Chen erfolgreich aus der Krise geführt und dann an SAP verkauft hat. Zuletzt arbeitete er bei avaya als Chief Marketing Officer.

Für alle drei beginnt die Arbeit bei BlackBerry am 01.01.2014.

In diesem Schachzug von Chen wird deutlich, wie sehr er das Unternehmen mit seiner Strategie verändern will. Um dabei auf vollstes Vertrauen seines Managements setzen zu können, holt er sich nun also für ihn alte Bekannte ins Boot. Offensichtlich erwartet er an dieser Stelle auch einigen Gegenwind.

In diesem Zusammenhang sind wir auch auf diesen Freitag gespannt, an dem BlackBerry neue Quartalszahlen vorlegen wird und Chen sich erstmalig nach dem offenen Brief nach Amtsantritt zu Wort melden wird.

John Sims joins BlackBerry in January from SAP, where he served as President of SAP’s Mobile Services business.  John has more than 20 years of experience with companies that supply mobile telecommunications products and services to wireless operators. Before joining SAP, John held leadership positions at 724 Solutions, TANTAU Software, Intrado and Tandem Computers.  He serves on the Board of Directors and Executive Committee of CTIA.

BLACKBERRY ANNOUNCES TWO NEW EXECUTIVE APPOINTMENTS

Waterloo, ON – BlackBerry Limited (NASDAQ:BBRY; TSX:BB), a world leader in mobile communications, today announced two appointments that strengthen the Company’s strategy, marketing and operations.

James S. Mackey was appointed Executive Vice President for Corporate Development and Strategic Planning, joining the Company with years of experience executing highly successful corporate strategies that drive growth.  Mark Wilson was named Senior Vice President of Marketing and brings extensive experience building brand preference and driving integrated marketing for a number of well-known companies.

Before joining BlackBerry, Mackey served as Senior Vice President of Corporate Development at Open Text Corp., as well as head of Corporate Development at SAP, where he developed and led the Company’s global merger and acquisitions group, including completing more than 40 acquisitions.

Wilson will join BlackBerry in January from Avaya, whereas CMO he led the marketing transition to a customer-solutions orientation. He previously served as Senior Vice President of Corporate and Field Marketing at Sybase, and has extensive experience in marketing roles at AT&T and KPMG. At Sybase, he oversaw branding and advertising, lead generation, sales enablement and mobile product marketing operations.
