Der letzte Vorhang ist gefallen: BlackBerry Passport offiziell vorgestellt

John Chen hat nicht damit gegeizt das Passport bereits öffentlich in die Höhe zu halten, doch einige Fakten zum Passport waren doch noch mehr oder weniger ein Geheimnis. Soeben ist nun der letzte Vorhang für das neue High-End Smartphone von BlackBerry gefallen. Es ist nicht einfach ein Aufguss bestehender Smartphones sondern definiert ein noch nie dagewesenes Format. Dabei stehen Produktivität, Ausdauer und Performance an oberster Stelle. Das Passport bietet mit einem extrem-höchauflösenden Display auf 4,5″ im 1:1 Format und 1440px x 1440px (446ppi) genug Platz, um auch längere Texte komfortabel zu lesen und zu verfassen. Dazu trägt auch die neue kapazitative dreireihige Tastatur bei, die Gesten z.B. zum Scrollen direkt auf den Tasten ermöglicht. Auch werden damit Ansätze der BlackBerry Fulltouch-Tastatur auf ein Gerät mit Hardware-Tastatur gebracht. Hier verschmelzen tatsächlich zwei Welten im hochwertig mit Edelstahl eingerahmten Gerät.

Der Name des Passport ist nicht zufällig gewählt, greift euch einfach einen Reisepass der der Größe des BlackBerry Passport entspricht und schon erkennt ihr, dass das Passport nicht für jeden ist. Mit den Abmessungen von 128 x 90.3 x 9.3mm ist es nur ein Symbol eines der neuen Slogans von BlackBerry: Serious mobility for serious business. War das erste BlackBerry 10 Smartphone in Kooperation mit Porsche Design noch ein Fulltouch-Gerät und sehr nah mit dem Z10 verwandt, wurde gestern das mit einer Hardware-Tastatur ausgestattete P’9983 vorgestellt. BlackBerry kauft den Anbieter virtueller SIM-Karten-Lösungen „Movirtu“

BlackBerry ist weiterhin dabei, die strategische Ausrichtung durch den Kauf zusätzlicher Unternehmen zu unterstützen. Mit dem Kauf von Movirtu sollen geschäftliche Smartphone-Einbindungsmodelle wie bring-your-own device (BYOD) und corporate owned personally enabled (COPE) im Rahmen der BlackBerry-Enterprise Lösungen weiter verbessert werden. Der in England ansässige Anbieter hat eine Lösung aufgebaut, die die Abbildung von zwei verschiedenen Telefonnummer auf einer SIM-Karte und die damit verbundene geteilte Abrechnung ermöglicht. Es wird später auch möglich sein, den Telefonnummern getrennte IT-Policies zuzuweisen, wodurch man z.B. die private Nutzung auf solchen Geräten sehr frei gestalten kann. Die Movirtu-Lösung, die BlackBerry Balance und BlackBerry Workspace und andere Dienste vervollständigt, wird durch die Auswahl einer Telefonnummer für den jeweiligen Zweck besonders für den Mitarbeiter Vorteile bieten. Es ist geplant, die Lösung mit allen großen Netzbetreibern und auf BlackBerry 10, iOS und Android anzubieten.

BlackBerry Acquires Movirtu to Improve Adoption of BYOD and COPE

New solution enables „split billing“ for iOS, Android and BlackBerry

WATERLOO, ONTARIO–(Marketwired – Sept. 11, 2014) – BlackBerry Limited (NASDAQ:BBRY)(TSX:BB), a global leader in mobile communications, announced today that it has acquired Movirtu, a provider of virtual identity solutions for mobile operators that allows multiple numbers to be active on a single device. This improves device management in bring-your-own device (BYOD) and corporate owned personally enabled (COPE) environments. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

With Movirtu’s Virtual SIM platform, both a business number and a personal number can be used on a single mobile device, with separate billing for voice, data and messaging usage on each number. As a result, employees can switch between business and personal profiles easily without carrying multiple devices or SIM cards, and charges are appropriately billed to the company and the employee.
